The short version: a name to go by, the names you swipe on, and an email address only if you choose to sign in.

Who we are
That Baby Name is published by Sestante Analytics AG, which is the data controller for everything described here. You can reach us at hello@thatbabyname.com.
What we store
When you start or join a session, we store:
•
The name you choose to go by. It is whatever you type, it is shown to the other person in your session, and it does not have to be your real name.
•
Every name you swipe on and whether you liked it, with the time of the swipe. This is what makes matches work, and it is why undo works.
•
A random token for your seat. It is what proves this device is yours, and it is the only credential the app holds if you never sign in.
If you sign in, we also store your email address and the account identifier Supabase gives us, so a new device can be handed back the seat you already own.
We do not collect device identifiers, advertising identifiers, contacts, photos or location. There are no adverts and no third-party tracking in the apps.
What the other person sees
Only the name you chose to go by, and the names you both liked. A name you liked that they passed on is never shown to them, in either direction, unless you both separately turn on sharing your full list of likes.
Who processes it for us
•
Supabase, which runs the database and the sign-in.
•
Vercel, which hosts the app and the API.
•
Resend, which sends the daily recap email and, if you sign in, holds your address so we can tell you about changes to the app.
On the website only, we use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without building a profile of you. The iPhone and Android apps contain no analytics at all.
Email
If you sign in, we may send you a daily recap of your matches. Every one of those carries an unsubscribe link that works without signing in, and stopping them does not affect your session.
Deleting your data
If you signed in, go to your account and choose delete. That removes your account, your seat, and every swipe you have made, immediately and for good. Any session left with nobody in it is removed with it.
If someone you were swiping with stays, they keep their own likes, but names you had matched on stop being matches, because a match means you both said yes.
If you never signed in, there is no account to delete: leaving the session on your device removes the only link between you and it. To have the underlying session data removed as well, email us the six-letter code.
How long we keep it
Sessions are kept while they are useful, so a couple can come back to a shortlist months later. We are introducing an automatic expiry for sessions that have gone untouched for a long time. Until then, the delete described above is immediate and is the reliable way to be rid of it.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@thatbabyname.com. If you are in the UK or the EU you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Children
The app is for adults choosing a name for a baby. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If this changes in a way that matters, we will say so here and move the date at the top.
